History & Legacy
Deliverance Evangelistic Ministries made a historic acquisition in 1972 when it purchased the former Temple B’nai Abraham in Newark, NJ, establishing it as the headquarters church. This marked a significant milestone in the ministry founded by Arthur Skinner, who created and financed Deliverance Evangelistic Centers, Inc. Beginning his mission in 1957, Skinner envisioned the ministry as “an organism of the Body of Christ.” Through weekly DEC radio broadcasts and nationwide Crusade caravans, he spread the gospel far and wide, touching countless lives. His outreach extended globally, solidifying DEC’s presence beyond American borders.

In 1971, Reverend Skinner filled the Felt Forum of Madison Square Garden for a powerful crusade themed “A Supernatural Christ for a Superficial World". The event drew a staggering crowd of more than 16,000 attendees over four days, further demonstrating the ministry’s profound impact. Apostle Arturo Skinner transitioned to his eternal resting place in 1975, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith and devotion.

Following his passing, Apostle Ralph G. Shammah Nichol was elected by the congregation to serve as pastor and overseer of the ministry. Together with his wife, Evangelist Alee Nichol, he continued to advance the mission, ensuring its growth and endurance. After Evangelist Alee Nichol’s passing in 1995, Apostle Nichol remained steadfast in his leadership, dedicating over 40 years to ministry. Under his guidance, the ministry flourished with an array of impactful initiatives, including tent meetings that drew thousands, youth programs, summer camps, Thespian Society productions, a Food Pantry, Day Care services, Christian schooling, concerts, cantatas, and stage plays.

As the years passed, the community surrounding the ministry underwent significant changes, prompting a pivotal transition. In 2013, Apostle Nichol entrusted the ministry’s leadership to his daughter, Apostle Dawn Nichol-Manning. Following his passing in 2016, the ministry relocated to Union, NJ, where Apostle Dawn Nichol-Manning and her husband, Bishop Dennis Manning, continue to carry out ministerial work, serving the local community and beyond with unwavering dedication.
